Brenham TourThis Quick Day Trip has something for every member of the family, and is a nice General Introduction to the town of Brenham.
MORNING: Spend an hour or two at Horseshoe Junction Located behind Westwood Cinema 6, just west of Brenham on 290 ( 2100 Hwy 290, West) Playing together can add a lot to a vacation, and this is a great way to get in some healthy horsing around. Horseshoe Junction features a Go-Cart raceway, bumper-boats, laser tag, arcade games, a rock wall and a small bowling alley. DIRECTIONS: From Scenic Hill, go back to Brenham. Get on 290, heading west. Exit to the ramp to TX-36/US 290 W. loop around until you get on US 290 W. Go 0.3 miles. Look for the Westwood Cinema 6 and Horseshoe Junction to your right. Turn Right on Westwood Ln. |
Lunch DowntownNinty Six West, 103 South Baylor Street, an eclectic tapas/fusion wine and craft beer restaurant on the Northeast corner of the square.
Las Americas, 301 South St. Charles Street, and eclectic array of Latin cuisine on the south-side of downtown. Funky Art Café 202 W. Commerce (with an entrance off of W. Alamo St.), Downtown Brenham. Food is reasonably priced, and offerings range from the simple to the sophisticated. This building also has a nice coffee shop and boutique mixed in. Must Be Heaven, 107 W. Alamo, Downtown Brenham. This has an ice cream parlor featuring Bluebell Ice Cream (what else?) and reasonably priced sandwiches, soups, salads, quiches and deserts. BT Longhorn Saloon and Steakhouse. 205 S Baylor St, just off the square. Casual dining in a historic 1800’s building, with an amazing antique bar. YUMM! Sweets and Eats. 106 E. Alamo, Downtown. This features light lunch fare and an adjacent chocolate, ice cream, and candy store. |
DIRECTIONS (From Horseshoe Junction to Downtown Brenham): Head back East on 290. This quickly turns into W. Main St, which quickly turns into W. Alamo St. This will take you directly to Downtown. There is an entrance to Funky Art Café on the South side of W. Alamo right after Austin St. “Must Be Heaven” is just down the street on W. Alamo, and “YUMM Sweets and Eats” restaurant is just down the street from “Must Be Heaven”. Plenty of FREE parking and everything is in walking distance.

Shopping DowntownDowntown Brenham is loaded with great little antique stores and Boutiques. It’s definitely worth a spin around the square, and up and down W. Alamo Street, and W. Commerce Street (1 block south). There are plenty of shops within a 4 block radius to make this an entertaining post-lunch stroll.
Downtown MuralsWhile strolling through downtown, Brenham has some amazing murals for everyone to enjoy. Take the Brenham Art Walk for some great photo opportunities.

Craft Beer & WineIf you need to cool off after shopping and lunch, head on down to Home Sweet Farm Market and Biergarten, 307 South Park Street. They have the coldest and largest selection of Texas craft beer on tap in the county a great wine selection with live music on the weekends. They offer artisan cheese plates, snacks and root beer on tap for the kiddos not to mention locally produced hand rolled cigars for Dad.
Just one block away from Home Sweet Farm is Brenham's very own local Brazos Valley Brewing Company, 201 W. First Street. They open the outdoor tap room during the weekends and sometimes have live music. |
Last Stop: Pleasant Hill Winery
Round off your afternoon with a tour and some wine tasting at Pleasant Hill Winery. Stroll amongst the grapevines, or sit out on the deck and sip a glass.
DIRECTIONS (From Downtown to Pleasant Hill Winery)
Go west on W. Alamo St. Take a left on Austin St. Go south on S. Austin Street to W. Tom Green. Turn right on W. Tom Green. Drive one block, and turn left on South Day St. (Business 36). Take Business 36 South, under the 290 Overpass. About 3 blocks past the 290 overpass, take a right on Salem Rd. Follow Salem road for 1.2 miles. Pleasant Hill Winery is to your left.
DIRECTIONS (From Pleasant Hill Winery back to Scenic Hill)
Get back on Salem Rd, and drive west a short distance to hit FM 3456. Turn Right on FM 3456 and go north a short way until it T’s into FM 332. Take a left on FM 332. This will take you directly back to Scenic Hill.
